Defeating Our Enemies and Lining My Pockets, One CFL Bulb at a Time

Since moving into my condo and having my services turned on, I haven't seen any bills and have before now had no idea how much I'm spending on energy each month. A day or two after moving in, I went through the house and replaced as many of my incandescent bulbs as I could with compact florescent bulbs.

My power bill arrived yesterday. For 20 days, I owe $12.57. Rock!

Divided by 20 and then multiplying the result by 30 days, I figure my power bills will run right around $19 per month (probably through the winter, too, since my condo has a gas furnace). This is between $11 to $16 per month less than what I paid back in Pullman, Washington.

All of the appliances in my place are brand new and are energy efficient models, I also have lots of windows that I take advantage of natural light with, and I turn off and unplug things when I leave. It all adds up. I do not know what amount of difference my CFL bulbs are making, but considering that my bathroom lights consist of four fixtures that each had a 60 watt bulb in them, for a grand total of 240 watts, replacing them with four 13 watt CFL bulbs is a significant difference. And this is a scenario that I've repeated in several places throughout my home.

I couldn't care less about so-called "anthropogenic global warming." It's a myth at best, a disguise for government power grabbing at worst. That's not why I use these bulbs. I do so for two reasons: saving money and helping to reduce our dependence on foreign supplied energy. I want more cash in my pocket and fewer terrorists. I just hope the globe doesn't end up cooling down along the way - I hate the cold.
