I've only been to Los Angeles once in my life. I went there with relatives I was visiting in California on a day trip. We walked around and checked out some sights, some shops, and had a couple of meals in the city. At the time I was big into playing guitar, so we checked out the Musicians Institute, a school I once considered attending (and maybe I still will some day... passive income is the key to many things!). The most memorable part of that trip for me though is the Italian restaurant we ate dinner at. We didn't have reservations, so the staff tried to stick us at a table in the back by the kitchen door. My uncle asked for a table in the front of the restaurant by the windows, and the staff grudgingly granted the request. The waiter then tried to bust on my uncle by speaking Italian, thinking my uncle wouldn't understand and would be embarrassed probably. Little did the waiter know, that side of my family is full-blooded Italian and my uncle speaks the language fluently. My uncle answered back and started his order in Italian which ended up embarrassing the waiter, who promptly put his tail between his legs and switched to English (you could practically hear the hissing noise as the waiter's ego deflated). We got awesome service after that.
It was a fun trip, but my knowledge of the city and where to go was limited to what my relatives knew of it. It was all new to me, but I'm sure there are things I would have liked to have done there that day that none of us knew about. Next time around I may employ Trusted Tours & Attractions,
online travel guides who know of lots of
things to do in Los Angeles that even natives of the city might not be aware of.
These guys offer tours all over the place, such as
New York City tours, Atlanta, Orlando, Vegas, and others. They strike me as being a good way to introduce one's self to a new place. If you
sign up for Trusted Tours & Attraction's newsletter, you could win some good prizes, too. Last month they gave away a $150 iTunes gift card (good to have for long flights, like the Atlanta-to-Seattle flight I'll be on in September... ugh), and this month they're giving away a $150 Megallan's travel supplies gift certificate. It's free and you could get some good travel ideas from the newsletter, so go for it!
