This morning while waiting on the Aussie dollar / Japanese yen currency pair to get where I wanted it to go for trading purposes, I came across a new service of use to bloggers called Acobox. In short, Acobox is a hosting service for blog pictures offering unique features that make both incorporating photos into blogs easier, as well as offering photographers a way to share their work with the blogosphere and get credit for their photographs.Over on the right - that's a shot of the Colorado river. I picked it out to demonstrate the service. All I had to do to place that image in this post is search through the catalog of images at Acobox, then select the alignment and size I wanted. After that, you simply click a bar that produces the code snippet, copy the code to your clipboard and then paste it into your blog post. It took me all of 30 seconds to go from not having an image to having one in the body of my post.
If you are a photographer, you can share your work through Acobox, get credit for your work and build a reputation. What protects your work from unauthorized use is the fact that Acobox knows where images are being used, and if the domain is not registered in their database, they will either break the link or swap the image out with a random image (which could be hilarious, embarassing, or both for the pirate!).
I plan to use Acobox for putting images into my posts - it makes things a lot easier for me since I won't have to randomly search around for good pics - and I plan to share some of my own photographs through the service (in fact, I just did, but I have to wait until it is reviewed and approved before I can link to it). If you're a blogger or maintain some sort of website with images, I'm sure you'll find this service to be very useful.
