Glasses for Christmas?

I blogged a day or two ago about how asking for and receiving expensive gifts from people makes me feel off. I've also blogged before about Zenni Optical, a super cheap source of prescription eyeglasses online. Then it occurred to me: eyeglasses are a normally expensive item that you typically have to provide to yourself, but if they can be had at deep discounts, why not put them on a low cost Christmas wish list?

Take this pair of glasses, for example. Out of the selection of Holiday frames Zenni Optical is offering right now, these appealed to me the most. Their cost is just $25.95 for the lenses and frames, with several choices of color available.

I'm liking this idea. I could fulfill a need instead of trying to think up some frivolous want just so that someone who wants to give me a gift has an idea of what to buy. It would also keep the cost low so I don't get that aggravated feeling I experience when I know a bunch of money has been spent on me. Once again, the Internet delivers!

I spent $13, including shipping, on my pair from ZenniOptical. I figured for that price, even if they look slightly goofy, they're only $13!

If my kids broke them, or I lost them, I'm only out $13.

I got them, and they looked great! At least, nobody has made of me to my face...

Oh cool! That makes two people I know who are happy with their purchases there (not including Clark Howard). I think my current prescription is good, so I may just go ahead and buy some new glasses with it. I don't know if it's just wear and tear or something that we use on the job, but some of the coating has come off of my lenses and it makes them a bit less clear to look through.
