Today I will pick up my newly issued concealed pistol license. The reasons I applied for it are many, and perhaps over a series of posts I'll detail them, but for now I'll bring to your attention the core philosophies I adhere to that have guided my decision. The words of one Robert H. Boatman,
author of many books on the ownership and use of various firearms, contained in chapter 20 of his book, Living with Glocks, entitled,
The Constitutional Right and Social Obligation to Carry a Gun, lay out many of them. From the chapter:
A citizen who shirks his duty to contribute to the security of his community is little better than the criminal who threatens it, and is better off living in a society that places lesser demands on his capacity to accept responsibility.
