I heard a commentator on the radio today make an excellent point about the "problem" of people who lack health insurance in the U.S.
How much does it cost per month for someone aged 18 to 22 to get health insurance?
I'm not sure because I haven't looked it up, but I do know from my own shopping that I, a 33 year-old non-smoking male, can get a "catastrophic coverage" plan (which includes fully covered annual physicals, preventative care, vaccinations, etc. - much more than "catastrophic only"), which is Health Savings Account elligible, for $64 per month in premiums. Someone younger than me who is in my condition no doubt would pay less.
$64 DOLLARS PER MONTH.
We don't have a healthcare insurance crisis. We have yet another example of people being raised to place their heads firmly up their own backsides by people who are in the same state. If poor little uninsured Johnny were told "hold off on the Nintendo, don't eat out as much, drink and smoke a little less, and buy health insurance first," this wouldn't be an issue!
Instead, we're now faced with something starting in the ballpark of $1 TRILLION U.S. Dollars (starting... STARTING), a bunch of proposed new taxes, all over something that is not a problem for the most part except that so many people apparently can't be bothered to be responsible.
The really sad part is that they will pay for it. We all will. And I don't just mean in cash...
