New Old Computer

Off to a slow start on this reorganization/revitalization thanks to an ill-timed computer power supply failure. It's disappointing not just for the difficulty this event has created, but also because this particular power supply was not even one year old!

I decided against putting a new power supply in such an old computer, however, and opted to upgrade to something new instead. Much like cars and trucks, I prefer buying these things used, so I headed for a computer shop on the other side of the Oregon border (no sales tax) and picked up something that's a few years old. Compared to my previous system though, this is a big improvement.

That's the nice thing about a technology that changes and advances so rapidly: even if you are way behind the curve on upgrading, when you finally do the difference is tremendous. This makes buying used computers better than buying used automobiles in a way since autos do not typically fundamentally change every six months or so (or even over the course of several decades for that matter).

Now it's just a matter of waiting for Carbonite to finish reloading my files from my previous machine, a few more software installs, and then everything will be back to normal, only faster and with the ability to power up.

You're right about that dude. I love technology and how it is evolving. Buying used parts is a good move.
