Ripple (XRP) made it past $1.50 today.

Rumors abound. The big one: Coinbase is going to add XRP.

No one really knows. According to Ripple in their quarterly report, "big announcements" are due out in this quarter, the fourth. (Read it here, final paragraph of the report: https://ripple.com/xrp/q3-2017-xrp-markets-report/ ). There's only a few days left in this quarter.

If you don't already have XRP, here's the thing about buying it now: if this is true, getting in now could be very profitable.

On the other hand, if no significant announcement is made before the weekend passes, the price could come crashing down.

Wow... ANOTHER fork has occurred in Bitcoin that escaped noticed, back on the 12th.
Now there's "Bitcoin Super," too:
I didn't even know about this until I came across mention of it in an article I was reading about the fork coming tomorrow.
No telling if this one will ever amount to anything, but there's two things to pay attention to: this one claims to have activated the Lightning network and that it will incorporate smart contracts into it in a few months' time.
When these two features become part of Bitcoin Core, or some fork coin that actually replaces Core, I expect that to wreck Ethereum.

I've been doing some CPU mining with my two computers and a tablet I own for about a month now via MinerGate.

I like it. As far as mining software goes, this one is extremely user friendly and takes almost no effort to operate.

My desktop computer, which isn't much to brag about, has a four thread CPU. I find that I am able to dedicate three of them to mining and use the fourth for myself without compromising my user experience as I do other things with the computer (such as create this entry; I have MinerGate running right now). Thus I am able to do a little bit of mining while I'm using my computers anyway.

This is a "smart switching" type system that if you wish will dedicate your hash power to whatever coin offers the most profit at the moment. Or, you can choose to concentrate on a particular coin. (Right now I have all of my rigs dedicated to mining DigitalNote).

There are new capital gains rules in the tax reform bill that just passed the U.S. Congress.

This is important stuff to know: if you have big gains, you can avoid all taxes on them if they are held long-term (over one year) and your earned income is below a certain threshold, even if you're taking gains outside of a tax-sheltered account. This is why people like Warren Buffet derive most of their income from capital gains, not wages, because of the more favorable taxation.

"4. capital gains are defined a little differently

While capital gains tax rates didn’t change, how we talk about them did. Before, the 0%, 15% and 20% rates for long-term capital gains and qualified dividends applied to specific tax brackets. For example, you didn’t owe the 15% cap-gains rate until you hit the 25% income tax bracket.

Because the new rules change the income tax brackets, and because lawmakers seem to have wanted to maintain existing capital gains rates, those same long-term capital gains rates (0%, 15% and 20%) now apply to specific income thresholds:

The 0% rate applies for those with income up to $38,600 for single filers and up to $77,200 for joint filers

The 15% rate applies for single filers with income between $38,601 and $425,800 and joint filers with income between $77,201 and $479,000

The 20% rate applies for single filers with income above $425,800 and for joint filers with income above $479,000" -- A. Coombes

Haha!

"Help is in sight for that batch of early-Bitcoin-adopters who are sitting on untapped bounties because they’ve forgotten the passwords needed to get into their ‘wallets’.

A hypnotist in South Carolina has recently begun offering to help people recall forgotten passwords or find misplaced storage devices. Jason Miller charges one bitcoin plus 5% of the amount recovered–though he claims that rate is flexible." -- K. Hannam

Trying to explain the latest dip, MSM sources are citing a loss of enthusiasm for Bitcoin post-futures launch (since nothing spectacular happened), the launch of Bitcoin Cash on Coinslug (even though it had been trading on numerous exchanges elsewhere for months), and the usual "price is the only metric we know because we don't study the topic in-depth before opining on it" crowd.
Meanwhile in the midst of the action, this happened...
